Large boat burns on Biscayne Bay

The Miami-Dade police marine unit is working a large boat fire on Biscayne Bay, which has sent billowing black smoke into the downtown Miami skyline.

The fire, which broke out at around 2 p.m. onboard a 47-foot crew cabin boat, is burning on the bay waters near the Rickenbacker Causeway.

There are no immediate reports of injuries, according to the U.S. Coast Guard, which is also on the scene.

The boat burned to the waterline and then sank.

It’s unclear what caused the fire.
