Miami police were investigating a police involved shooting Wednesday night near Marlins Park in Little Havana that occurred just as a game was getting underway.

Details were sketchy but police said the incident was sparked by narcotics investigation that played out near a crosswalk being used by people headed to the stadium for a Marlins game against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Two officers ordered the suspect out of the car. Witnesses said there was a confrontation between the officers and the man near the park at Northwest 17th Avenue and Third Street.

At some point, the man made a sudden move and one officer opened fire.

“They shooting was related to the narcotics investigation; we’re still gathering details,” said Miami police spokeswoman Kenya Reyes.

The wounded suspect was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital Ryder Trauma Center. His condition is unknown.

At 9 p.m., as the Marlins game was still underway, police began their investigation into the shooting.
