The June 6 article Florida businesses stuck with Medicaid tab for state’s inaction, on the Florida Legislature’s refusal to expand Medicaid, highlighted the hypocrisy that resulted in the rejection of federal funds.
The Legislature’s lack of business-like thinking compounds the idiocy. What CEO would not invest in a venture with a more than 90 percent return on the investment? The feds pay 100 percent of the cost for four years then 90 percent after. The Florida economy gets $51 billion in healthcare jobs, providing people with salaries that will cycle through housing, retail, entertainment and more, multiplying many times over.
Best of all, the poor will not have to choose between feeding their kids or going to a doctor. Plus, taxpayers will not have to pay the emergency-room costs hospitals now absorb.
