A man suspected in an armed robbery was critically wounded by Miami-Dade police Monday night following a brief chase.
The incident played out shortly before 8 p.m. along the 5800 block of Northwest 15th avenue when officers working a robbery intervention detail tried to pull over the unidentified suspect, who was driving a white Nissan Maxima that matched the description of a car used in an earlier robbery.
The 28-year-old suspect refused to stop the Nissan and after a short chase bailed from the car, Miami-Dade police said.
At that point, police said, there was confrontation between officer and the suspect and shots were fired.
Witnesses told Miami Herald newspartner CBS4 they heard up to 15 shots fired in the street. Police found a weapon at the scene. Its unclear if the suspect exchanged gunfire with police.
The wounded suspect was rushed in critical condition to Jackson Memorial Hospitals Ryder Trauma Center.
No one else was injured.
The name of the suspect has not been released, not any details about the crime he allegedly committed.
