Notes
Construction of Texas Motor Speedway began in 1995. This 1.5-mile racetrack has 24 degrees of banking in all four turns and 5 degrees of banking on both the front and back straightaways. The length of the front straight is 2,250 feet, and the back straight measures 1,330 feet.
Since 1997, there have been 24 IndyCar races held at Texas. The series competed twice there each season from 1998-2004. In 2011, the event at Texas was split into two races (each one was 114 laps/171 miles in length).
Helio Castroneves and Sam Hornish Jr. share the record for most IndyCar wins at Texas with three each. Hornish is now a full-time competitor in the NASCAR Nationwide Series. Castroneves will attempt to win at this track for a fourth time this weekend.
Alex Tagliani won the pole position at Texas in 2011 (race 1) and 2012. Tomas Scheckter holds the track record for most pole wins three.
Team Penske has the most team victories at Texas with seven. Castroneves and Will Power are those Penske drivers entered in this year's race. Power's only win on an oval came at this track in 2011 (race 2).
The October 2001 race featured a track record for most lead changes with 32. Hornish was the winner of that event.
The furthest back a driver has started and won an IndyCar race at Texas is 17th, accomplished by Justin Wilson one year ago.
Hornish holds the record for most laps led by an IndyCar race winner at Texas. He won at this track in June 2007 after leading a total of 159 laps.
The closest margin of victory in an IndyCar race at Texas came on Sept. 15, 2002 when Hornish beat Castroneves to the finish line by only 0.0096 seconds.
The next IndyCar race is the June 15 Milwaukee IndyFest at The Milwaukee Mile. Ryan Hunter-Reay won last year's event there.
