An early-morning car crash at the Golden Glades interchange Saturday killed a man and split the car he was riding in into two pieces.

Isaac Patrick Owens, 29, of Miami Gardens, was a passenger in a 2002 Acura heading east on the State Road 7 extension that links the Palmetto Expressway to U.S. 441. The driver of the Acura wasn’t identified.

The driver prepared to make a left turn, but didn’t yield to oncoming traffic and was struck in the right rear side by a westbound vehicle at about 5:20 a.m., the Florida Highway Patrol reported.

Part of the Acura landed on the entrance ramp for Florida’s Turnpike and part of it came to rest on a grassy median.

Owens died in the crash.

The driver of the Acura and the driver of the other vehicle suffered minor injuries.
