A Miami-Dade motorcyclist was killed early Thursday after losing control on his bike on Interstate 95, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The victim was identified as Alejandro Simon, 21, who died at Jackson Memorial Hospital’s trauma center as a result of his injuries.
FHP said Simon apparently lost control of his motorcycle at around 2:50 a.m. near the southbound ramp of I-95 and Northwest 95th Street exit after he entered the ramp on the grassy shoulder.
While attempting to stop, Simon slid into the intersection, struck the concrete curb median and was thrown from the motorcycle.
“We are seeing more and more of these young riders losing their lives on our highways on these fast bikes,” Trooper Joe Sanchez, a Florida Highway Patrol trooper, said.
Although Simon was wearing a helmet, it was not enough to save his life, Sanchez said.
