The safety performance of the Turkey Point nuclear power plant will be the subject of a public meeting Thursday in Homestead.

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, which is holding the annual open house, earlier this month announced it is upping oversight of the facility operated by Florida Power & Light after three unplanned shutdowns in the first three months of this year. Regulators say the shutdowns of one of the South Miami-Dade plant’s two reactors posed no threat to public safety.

NRC staff will answer questions about plant operations during the meeting, which is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Keys Gate Golf Club, 2300 Palm Dr., Homestead.
