Memorial Day Picnic & Commemoration: Celebrate our freedoms and honor our fallen heroes as the South Miami/Coral Gables Elks Lodge invites the public to take time and remember those who paid the ultimate price on our behalf and then celebrate the freedoms they made possible; 11 a.m. Monday; South Miami Elks Lodge, 6304 SW 78th St., South Miami. Miami Beach Honors Veterans on Memorial Day: The city, the American Legion Miami Beach Post 85 and VFW Miami Beach Post 3559 honors the memory of the men and women who fought and died for freedom with a wreath-laying ceremony and 21-gun salute; 10:30 a.m. Monday; Miami Beach Police Headquarters, 1100 Washington Ave., Miami Beach.

Miami Springs Memorial Day Service: Hundreds of River Cities residents are expected to attend a ceremony on Monday at 9:30 a.m. — in front of the War Monument on Curtiss Parkway — to honor members of the armed forces killed in war. There will be music, an honor guard, guest speakers and more. The event is sponsored by the Daughters of the American Revolution, John MacDonald Chapter, and the city of Miami Springs. Surfside Memorial Day Ceremony: The event includes a presentation of colors, local Scout troops and special guests. Light refreshments are served; 10 a.m. Monday; Veteran’s Park, 8791 Collins Ave., Surfside. Free. 305-866-3635 or www.townofsurfsidefl.gov.

North Miami Beach Memorial Day Service: Begins with a gun volley delivered by the North Miami Beach Police Department Honor Guard Unit followed by the march of colors over the Snake Creek Canal Bridge led by the St. Andrew’s Drum and Pipe Band of Miami. Also includes local clergy, city, county and state dignitaries; veterans’ posts and auxiliaries; all branches of the Armed Forces, the Miami-Dade County Corrections and Fire Departments, the Florida Highway Patrol, Junior ROTC Units, youth groups, scout troops and local community and civic organizations; 10 a.m. Monday; All Wars Memorial Park, 16501 NE 16th Ave., North Miami Beach. Federal offices: Closed.

Miami-Dade and Broward County offices: Closed.

Miami-Dade and Broward courts: Closed.

Miami-Dade and Broward Transit: Sunday schedule for both counties.

Miami-Dade and Broward libraries: Closed.

Public schools: Closed.

Garbage collection: Regular schedule in Miami-Dade. In Broward, call your city for schedule.

Banks: Most are closed (but check with your specific branch).

Stock markets: Closed.

Post offices: Closed.

Tri-Rail: Weekend schedule. Customer service call center open from 7 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Malls: Open.
