DCF fails again

 

Another innocent child has died because of the blatant incompetence of the Florida Department of Children & Families. The little arms of Rilya Wilson and Nubia Barahona have stretched out to embrace the latest victim of neglect, infant Bryan Osceola.

Perhaps it is time for DCF Secretary David Wilkins, along with Gov. Rick Scott, who appointed him, to venture forth from their Tallahassee offices to observe for themselves the utter failure of our local DCF office.

    Re Nick Hados’ letter, Help foster children, I was a Guardian ad Litem for four years. For personal reasons, I retired from the program a few years ago. After reading the Miami Herald’s series Innocents lost and realizing how many children died because of a shortage of child advocates, I felt a strong need to return to the program. I just completed re-training (in Broward) and expect to get a case within the next few days.
