Leonard Pitts seems to think in his May 19 column, On death penalty, wrongly accused are victims, too, that George Ryan did the right thing by imposing a moratorium on the death penalty. Ryan is a criminal himself and will certainly side with other criminals. Now with DNA testing being so accurate, except in the case of OJ Simpson, the chance of an error is minute.
Florida’s new Timely Justice Act should be signed as soon as possible. The idea of our paying for housing, feeding and providing medical services and every other thing for 20 years to 35 years is crazy.
How do these people get away with 15 or 20 appeals, all at the taxpayers’ expense?
