Church to host indoor garage sale
You know that summer is here when Palm Springs United Methodist Church, 5700 W. 12th Ave. in Hialeah, is talking about its annual Summer Indoor Garage Sale.
The two-weekend event will be from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on June 7 and 8, and June 14 and 15 at the church.
My friend Nancy Perez tells me that there will be "a large variety of items for sale, from clothing and lines, to records, videos, toys, and small furniture; and from baby items and pet supplies to school and office supplies, craft supplies, and medical supplies."
Items for sale will also include luggage, lamps, pictures, books, holiday items and decorations and collectables.
In addition, Derek Alfonso, a Boy Scout from the church's Troop 306, will have a car wash on both Saturdays to help raise funds for his Eagle Scout project.
Lunch and snack foods will also be for sale. Money raised from the garage sale will be used for church work and missions, Perez said. For more information call her at the church at 305- 821-3232.

Member honored as ‘Mother of the Church’
On Mothers Day, Linda McIntyre Swift said she got one of the "surprises of my life," when she was honored as the “Mother of the Church” at The Church of God Tabernacle, 1351 NW 67th St.
Swift, 47, and her husband Deacon Milton Swift, are the parents of Isaiah, 6. She is the youngest mom ever honored as the church's Mother of the Year.
In presenting the award, Bishop Walter H. Richardson said, "This mother is one of the sweetest mothers I know." The church gave the very surprised Swift a standing ovation. She was selected by the church's Trustee Board on the basis of how she works with, not only her child, but also how she interacts with her nieces and other young relatives.
