Re Jose Azel’s May 18 article, Oedipus in Havana: Fidel Castro’s only success has been in his role as the No. 1 anti-American. As a result, he gained the support of the left and most of the anti-U.S. governments worldwide.
The Castro brothers have survived all these years because of the help they received from the Soviet Union and now from Venezuela. I consider them nothing but political beggars. Because of his hatred for the United States, Fidel Castro almost brought millions of people to the precipice of annihilation during the Cuban Missile Crisis. It’s sad to see that this mentally disturbed man has been in charge for more than 50 years.
History remembers Jose Martí as the hero of the Cuban independence. The same history will remember Fidel and Raúl Castro as the biggest oppressors the Cuban people ever experienced.
