Re the May 18 story Miami Art Museum gets anonymous $15 million gift: This public-relations announcement diverts attention from the real financial issues of the museum.
The museum’s board is not disclosing the amount in cash it has in the bank, the cash pledges’ timetable or any loans. The gifts in art, the unpaid pledges and the Knight Foundation’s $10 million given for education does not pay for bricks and mortar.
How can museum director Thom Collins say: “We’re well past the brick-and-mortar costs for the fundraising?”
Let us always remember that the museum is on city of Miami land and that Miami-Dade County gave $100 million in public funds.
