A bus struck and killed a woman at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport Saturday afternoon.
The Broward Sheriffs Office said the private charter bus hit Cheryl Bazilus, 68, on Terminal Drive outside the lower level of Terminal 4.
Bazilus, of Fort Pierce, had stepped out of an SUV stopped in the right travel lane to greet her husband, who was arriving at the airport, said BSO spokesman Mike Jachles said in a statement.
She tried to get back into the SUV but tripped and fell under the wheels of the bus, he said.
BSO Fire Recue personnel responding to the crash declared her dead at the scene.
No one on the bus, which was carrying 12 people to Miami to board a cruise ship, was injured.
Deputies closed the lower-level arrivals lanes at the airport and rerouted traffic to the upper level until about 6:30 p.m. as traffic homicide detectives investigated the crash.
The accident was still under investigation at 9 p.m. Saturday night.
