Broward Sheriff’s deputies were searching for a driver who sped off after striking a pedestrian on State Road 7 in West Park early Friday, leaving the man lying injured in the street.
BSO Fire Rescue personnel airlifted 52-year-old Walter James to Memorial Regional Hospital, where he was admitted in critical condition.
His condition later stabilized.
He had been walking west to east across the northbound lanes in the 2600 block of State Road 7 around 5 a.m. when he was struck by a silver, four-door Honda Civic with dark windows, according to a BSO news release.
The impact damaged the car’s headlight and hood and knocked the cover off the driver-side mirror. It also may have damage to its windshield, according to BSO. The driver turned in a neighborhood and sped from the scene, according to BSO.
Traffic homicide investigators have offered a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest.
