Police on Thursday arrested a man they say is responsible for the shooting death of another man in April outside of a Hollywood apartment.
Bryant Lorenzo Smith, 26, was picked up early Thursday at Club Xtasy Café in Lauderdale Lakes and charged with second-degree felony murder.
According to Hollywood Police, Smith attempted to rob two men outside of an apartment in the 2800 block of Fillmore Street on April 13.
But when he asked for the men’s belongings, one of the men, Mervin Nhomme, opened gunfire. Smith shot back. Caught in the crossfire: Richard Biennestin, Nhomme’s cousin, who was visiting.
The fatal shot came from Nhomme, said Hollywood Lt. Nikki Coffin.
“He was defending himself,” she said.
Coffin said Smith is being charged because of Florida law that says that someone who commits a felony can be charged if someone dies during the crime.
