Last year the Legislature almost unanimously passed a law that even the right-wing governor conceded was probably unconstitutional. The law essentially let the state set foreign policy by banning any business with Cuban business ties from acquiring local and state government contracts.
So the law’s sponsors, our representatives, sent the state to federal court twice, and twice the federal courts said it’s none of your business.
These legislators consist of the same august body that this year refused to cover 1 million Floridians with health care from $51 billion in federal funds.
Picture this: all of our local Don Quixote’s ride off into the sunset proud to have enacted and defended a unconstitutional law while 1 million Floridians receive inadequate, if any, comprehensive healthcare, resulting in unnecessary suffering and deaths.
