Brittney Reese (Gulfport, Miss.) and Ryan Whiting (Harrisburg, Pa.) each recorded meet records and world-leading marks in their respective events to open the IAAF Diamond League season on May 10 in Doha, Qatar. Reigning Olympic champion Reese posted a personal best leap of 7.25 meters to win the women's long jump, while Whiting also set a personal best with a mark of 22.28 meters in men's shot put. Meanwhile, Dawn Harper-Nelson (East St. Louis, Ill.) won the women's 100-meter hurdles in a world-leading time of 12.60 seconds. Olympic medalists Michael Tinsley (Little Rock, Ark.), Christian Taylor (Fayetteville, Ga.) and Justin Gatlin (Woodham, Fla.) all also earned medals in the men's 400 hurdles, the men's triple jump and the men's 100m, respectively. Olympian and IAAF Female Athlete of the Year, Allyson Felix (Santa Clara, Calif.), secured second with a time of 50.19 in the 400.

JORGENSEN GOLDEN AGAIN

Just three weeks after her historic win in San Diego, Gwen Jorgensen (St. Paul, Minn.) raced her way to another gold medal at the International Triathlon Union World Triathlon event on May 11 in Yokohama, Japan. Jorgensen clocked a time of 1 hour, 57 minutes, 5 seconds on the 1,500-meter swim, 40-kilometer bike, 10K run course en route to her fourth series podium finish. Her back-to-back wins have secured her the top spot in the ITU World Triathlon Series standings. In the men's race, Jarrod Shoemaker (Clermont, Fla.) finished in 1 hour, 47 minutes, 59 seconds.

BOXING

Light flyweight Daniel Gonzalez (Moreno Valley, Calif.), light bantamweight Shakur Stevenson (Newark, N.J.) and heavyweight Pano Tiatia (St. George, Utah) each earned gold medals at the Victory Day Tournament on May 12 in Uman, Ukraine. Team USA took home a total of 10 medals from its first major international event of the Junior World Team Open.

Making her international debut, fifteen-year-old Caitlin Orosco (Anaheim, Calif.) was named Outstanding Boxer of the Tournament after winning the pinweight gold medal at the Pirkka Tournament, held May 4-5, in Tampere, Finland. Meanwhile, featherweight Jajaira Gonzalez (Glendora, Calif.), flyweight Nysja Barrientes (Las Vegas, Nev.), bantamweight Jessica Galvez (Sparks, Nev.) and lightweight Iesha Kenney (Alexandria, Va.), also emerged victorious.

BOWLING

Lennie Boresch Jr. (Kenosha, Wis.) posted a strong comeback win at the PBA50 Miller High Life Classic on May 8 in Mooresville, N.C. Trailing by more than 30 pins halfway through the title match, Boresch fought hard to win by one pin and secure his second career PBA50 tour title.

CANOE/KAYAK

Maggie Hogan (San Diego, Calif.) and Kaitlyn McElroy (Oklahoma City, Okla.) won the bronze medal in the women's K2 1,000-meter race at the 2013 ICF Sprint World Cup No. 1, held May 10-12, in Szeged, Hungary. The pair finished with a time of 3:54.966, 1.008 seconds behind the first-place finisher. The pair also finished second in the K2 500 B final. Meanwhile, 2012 Olympian Tim Hornsby (Atlanta, Ga.) placed sixth in the men's K1 200 B final and kayaker Ryan Dolan (Kailua, Hawaii) posted two sixth-place finishes in the 200 C and K1 500 B finals.

CYCLING

The USA Cycling National Criterium Calendar completed its ninth event of the calendar as riders contested the Tour de Grove on May 11 in St. Louis. Erica Allar (Tuscon, Ariz.) won a 30-rider sprint to the finish line to increase her lead in the NCC women's standings with 307 points. Meanwhile, Shane Kline (Bally, Pa.), improved to third place in the men's standings with 368 points and Luke Keough (Sandwich, Mass.) placed second to move back into the top five with 285 points.

    Bob Bryan (Sunny Isles Beach, Fla.) and Mike Bryan (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) became the first mens doubles team in the Open-era to hold all four major titles along with an Olympic gold medal after winning the mens doubles final at the 2013 Wimbledon Championships, held June 29-July 7 in London. The sibling duo earned a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 victory over to the Croatian/Brazilian pairing of Ivan Dodig and Marcelo Melo in the final. With the win, the Bryan brothers earned their 15th Grand Slam title and improved their record as the winningest mens pairing of all time.
