Self-imposed restrictions

Letter writer Javier Moreno claims that the Jay-Z’s recent trip to Cuba probably did more to further American culture and capitalism than the failed Cuban embargo.

He supports the elimination of the current travel restrictions along with the 50-year-old embargo.

He cites free travel to China, Vietnam and Saudi Arabia as examples to support his position on Cuba, yet I fail to see how traveling to any of these countries have helped any of their people get closer to freedom or to their human rights being respected.

Go ahead and eliminate the embargo, it was always a weak option. And don’t forget to strike down the Cuban Adjustment Act, which is well past due.

As for me, I will keep my personal embargo and travel restrictions to any place that doesn’t respect the rights of the people.

Downtown Miami’s resurgence was well under way before The Big 3 arrived, gained momentum alongside four consecutive championship runs and won’t be slowing down anytime soon.
