The man, who was in his 50s, was attacked Sunday night by three robbers in Allapattah near a coin laundry and cafeteria.
The victim, whose name has not been released, was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital.
Witnesses say he was shot while holding a gold pendant with the image of St. Lazarus.
Police said the robbery played out around 7 p.m. when the victim parked his black Ford F-150 truck at the corner of Northwest 17th Street and 16th Avenue, headed for a strip of stores.
Three gunmen approached the victim and demanded his gold chain, said police spokeswoman Kenia Reyes.
The robbers snatched the gold chain from the mans neck, but as they fled, one of the suspects shot the victim in the stomach.
We dont know if they had a getaway car waiting or ran away, Reyes said.
