I object to nuclear power — including Turkey Point’s expansion — because history proves that catastrophic radiation leaks can’t be prevented.
However, I have no doubt that FPL will be allowed to build more nuclear reactors. If we’re forced to pay for and live near a nuclear-power plant, then let’s require it to produce more than electricity.
With a different design it could provide abundant hydrogen and drinking water. Our economy would soar with new hydrogen fuel cell jobs, electricity rates offset by hydrogen sales and clean drinking water.
Revenues from hydrogen sales could also justify spending more on safety and environmental protection systems.
