Jason Collins’ recent “coming out” exhibited courage. He did a great service for every minority that has ever been considered to be less than anyone else.
Collins reminded me of another courageous person, Harvey Milk, who once said: Every gay person must come out. As difficult as it is, you must tell your immediate family, relatives, friends and people you work with. Once they realize that we are indeed their children, that we are everywhere, every myth, every lie, every innuendo will be destroyed once and all.”
Those words were spoken almost 40 years ago. Milk was assassinated for his courage, but I know he would be proud of Collins today.
