Seniors could be victims of a new identity-theft scam. A person using your identity can create an online account with the Social Security Administration. Once they have the account name and password, they can change your direct deposit.
Thanks to the Social Security Administration, we received a letter telling us that an account online had been opened in our name. The SSA also gave us instructions of what to do if we hadn’t opened the account — which we did — consisting of blocking the access to the account via the Internet.
Fellow seniors, read carefully all letters from the SSA, and be careful if you have an online account.
