The driver of a tow truck died in a hit-and-run in Kendall early Saturday morning.

The driver was responding to a call from a AAA member whose car was on fire about 3 a.m., southbound on State Road 874, near Killian Parkway.

Florida Highway Patrol Joe Sanchez said authorities were looking for an older model BMW -- dark burgundy or maroon, with frontal damage on the passenger side.

“The head light should be broken, the right side rear view mirror missing and the passenger window shattered,” Sanchez said. About 9:30 a.m. authorities were examining SunPass surveillance video, Sanchez said.

The driver of the BMW hit the man while he was hooking up the car to the tow truck.

The BMW was “traveling southbound when it veered into the emergency lane and struck and killed the tow truck driver,” Sanchez said. “That vehicle fled the scene.” Authorities are asking any one with information to call Florida Highway Patrol 305-470-2500.
