Woman killed in crash with school van in Pompano Beach

A woman was killed Friday afternoon when her car hit a school van in Pompano Beach.

The van from the Kidsville Early Learning Center was carrying six children ages 6 to 10. The children were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, said Broward Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Dani Moschella.

The crash happened around 3 p.m. when the woman, driving a Nissan Altima, rear-ended the southbound school van on Northwest 27th Avenue as it waited to make a left turn onto Northwest Ninth Street.

The woman died at the scene, Moschella said. Pompano Beach Fire Rescue personnel took the children to Broward Health North and the Broward Health Medical Center for treatment.

Broward Sheriff’s Office traffic homicide investigators are still trying to determine what caused the crash.

They have withheld the woman’s name and age pending notification of kin.
