Joy-Ann Reid, in her May 2 Other Views column, New America held hostage by Old America, says that she must “confess to not understanding where the basic impulses of the right come from.”
However, the three impulses she lists are nothing but liberal caricatures of conservative thought and opinion. She trots out the tired, old clichés: Reward the rich, damn the downtrodden and render the government inert.
The conservatives I know want to reward job creation and allow people to keep more of what they earn while minimizing fraud, waste and inefficiency in the government.
Maybe if she lost the left-wing talking points, she might understand conservative impulses a bit more. She might even come to embrace them.
