It’s becoming more apparent that the common good philosophy, which in a democratic society defines what is best for our society as a whole, is becoming deeply eroded. With guns, common sense restrictions have been curtailed and background checks defeated, so murders and violence against our citizens go on unabated. We allow the importation of exotic breeds of snakes that are eventually discarded into the Everglades, causing massive disruption to the ecosystem. One percent of our wealthiest citizens refuse to contribute a fair share of their wealth to help maintain Social Security and Medicare — nor do they agree to increase the minimum wage, which benefits millions of us. These avaricious, self-serving interests harm our society in totality. We need to change our thinking to what benefits the greater good.
