• Westminster Academy sophomore Andrew James introduced himself with a bang at the Class 1A state track finals on Friday. After missing his freshman season to recover from an appendectomy James made up for lost time by winning the 400-meters and finishing second in the 200-meters at the University of North Florida. James clocked 48.82 to cap an undefeated season in the 400 and set a personal-best 21.51 in the 200.
James wrapped up his state debut by anchoring the Lions’ 1,600-meter relay team to a third-place finish in 3:27.94.
• Late Thursday — District 16-3A final — Florida Christian 2, Westminster Christian 1: Chris Gandara’s two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth lifted defending district champion Florida Christian to a 2-1 victory over Westminster Christian in the District 16-3A final Thursday night.
The Patriots will host Dade Christian in regional quarterfinals while the Warriors get Mater Lakes.

• Late Friday — District 11-8A final — Flanagan 4, Cypress Bay 0: Pitcher Alex Sarmiento shut out the Lightning offense, and a three-run fourth lifted the Falcons (18-5) to the victory over Cypress Bay (14-6).
Flanagan will play Coral Glades in regional quarterfinals, and Cypress Bay faces Douglas.
