Learn more about news coverage of the future when John Labonia and Dan Grech of WLRN-FM speak at the next South Florida International Press Club luncheon at noon on May 1 at the Miami Shores Country Club, 10000 Biscayne Blvd.
Labonia, general manager of WLRN Public Broadcasting Radio and Television, has transformed the station by creating partnerships with other news organizations.
“I strongly believe that strategic partnerships are the key to success in today’s competitive media environment,” he said in a release. “The success of this enterprise has resulted in unprecedented growth in audience, revenue, new digital and online services and the ability to form strategic partnerships with media entities like The Miami Herald to bring listeners more in-depth, compelling local and regional news.”
Grech, news director of WLRN-Miami Herald News, is a journalist with more than 15 years of professional experience. Under his leadership the WLRN radio news department has been recognized with numerous national and statewide awards.

MAY POPS CONCERT
Be sure to go out to hear the 85-member Greater Miami Symphonic Band at 8 p.m., May 7 at Gusman Concert Hall, 1314 Miller Dr. on the University of Miami campus in Coral Gables.
This 16th annual "May Pops Concert" will feature Loras John Schissel, senior musicologist at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C., composer, arranger and conductor of the Virginia Grand Military Band and Cleveland's Blossom Festival Band and Orchestra. Schissel is returning as guest conductor for the concert.
The GMSB will perform marches, novelties and arrangements by Henry Fillmore. Fillmore published over 250 pieces of music and arranged hundreds more including Trombone Smears, and the famous Lassus Trombone which Schissel will conduct at the event.
