MIA reopens after package prompts evacuation

Authorities cleared Miami International Airport Tuesday evening after a suspicious package led to the Concourse H checkpoint and surrounding areas being evacuated.

Airport spokesman Greg Chin said the areas were reopened about 6 p.m. after being closed for more than an hour.

Police said that at 4:26 p.m. a man on the second floor of the airport asked someone to hold his bag and made a reference to explosives. He was detained and questioned.

Concourses H through J were evacuated until the Miami-Dade Police Department’s Bomb Squad examined the package and determined it was not dangerous.
