Broward County Animal Care and Adoption is launching a pet food drive, through May 15, for cats and dogs in the county’s care.

Look for the colorful Pet Snack Shack collection boxes at Animal Care’s adoption centers in Fort Lauderdale and Pompano Beach, Broward County library branches, courthouses, the Governmental Center in Fort Lauderdale, Government Center West in Plantation, and other county buildings.

“We care for thousands of dogs and cats,” said Lisa Mendheim, public education coordinator for Broward County Animal Care and Adoption, “but spring is always busy for us as it marks the beginning of kitten season when we will realize a tremendous increase in the number of cats and kittens that will need our help.”

County shelters take in 17,000 animals each year that await return to owners or adoption.
