• Mourinho’s status: Real Madrid is coming Aug. 6-7 to Sun Life Stadium for the final rounds of the inaugural Guinness International Champions Cup, but will coach Jose Mourinho be on the sideline?
The Portuguese coach has a contract through 2016 but has been pursued by other clubs. He has not revealed much when asked about his future, leading to speculation. He said Friday he will decide what to do next after the season.
“I have said that my relationship with the president [ Florentino Perez] and other board members is very good and that allows us to sit down and analyze things in a calm manner to decide what is best for Madrid,” Mourinho said.
Juventus, Inter Milan, and the Los Angeles Galaxy are among the eight teams that will join Real Madrid in the Champions Cup this summer. The final four teams will be announced in the next two weeks. Turkish reports said Galatasaray had been invited, and there have been reports AC Milan will be added. Organizers said they are also negotiating with one or two English Premier League teams. Tickets go on sale in May.
• Box office: Spain plays Haiti on June 8 at Sun Life Stadium in a friendly that will serve as the Spanish national team’s preparation for the Confederations Cup in Brazil later that month. The full Spain roster is expected, including many stars from Barcelona and Real Madrid.
Tickets start at $29 and a limited number of VIP field seats will be made available on the sidelines.
All ticketholders will be invited to watch practice at the stadium the day before the match.
Those who wish to purchase tickets may do so at www.sunlifestadium.com and www.ticketmaster.com or by calling the stadium box office at (305) 943-8000.
