A woman was killed and a 13 year old girl was injured on Florida’s Turnpike Saturday morning when their van hit road debris and spun onto the shoulder and into a tree.

Amalia Ramirez-Marquez, 46, was driving a 2001 Mazda southbound on the inside center lane just north of State Road 90 at about 8:15 a.m. when she hit debris on the road and lost control, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release.

She died at the scene.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue paramedics took a passenger, 13-year-old Barbara Ramirez, to Miami Children’s Hospital for treatment.

Miami Herald news partner CBS4 has reported that her injuries are not life-threatening.
