Police Search for Shooter in Pompano Beach



Sheriff’s deputies are looking for a man they say shot another man in an apartment in Pompano Beach Friday afternoon.

The suspect, 20-year-old Adiel Jaramillo, was friends with victim Michael Cornelio and may have shot him accidentally while playing with a handgun, according to a Broward Sheriff’s Office news release.

The shooting happened at about 2:50 p.m. in an apartment in the 400 block of Southwest 2nd Place where Jaramillo and Cornelio, 19, were hanging out with two other friends.

Cornelio died at the scene and Jaramillo ran.

Jaramillo is a gang member with a criminal history and may be armed, according to the news release.

He faces possible charges of manslaughter, evidence tampering and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The sheriff’s office has asked anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS or make an anonymous report online at browardcrimestoppers.org.
