One person died Wednesday night in a two-car accident on the Seven Mile Bridge in the Keys, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Two people were airlifted to a Miami hospital, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Becky Herrin said. The accident occurred at the north end of the bridge.

Both the northbound and southbound lanes of the bridge were closed Wednesday night, said Florida Highway Patrol spokesman Joe Sanchez, and were expected to remain closed for several hours.
