NASCAR penalized Camping World Truck Series driver Ron Hornaday Jr. with a loss of 25 points, a $25,000 fine and probation until June 12 for wrecking Darrell Wallace Jr. during a caution in last Sunday's race at Rockingham Speedway.
NASCAR said in its news release on Wednesday that Hornaday, driver of the No. 9 truck, was found to have violated Section 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing. Altercation with another competitor on the race track during a caution period) of the 2013 rule book.
Hornaday, the four-time truck champion, hit the back of Wallace and punted him into the outside wall, in retaliation after Wallace bumped into him while the two were battling for position just before the yellow flag waved.
NASCAR immediately penalized Hornaday for the incident by sending him to the tail end of the lead lap for aggressive driving. The 54-year-old driver was later summoned to the NASCAR hauler to discuss his actions.
Hornaday finished 15th while Wallace placed 27th in the truck race at Rockingham.
The loss of points for Hornaday dropped him from fourth in the championship standings to 13th.
