I hope that you are right in your April 12 editorial, A chance to move forward, but let’s take a moment and review Latin-American history. Poverty, corruption and inequality allowed the forgotten ones to heed the populists’ cry and claim what was due to them for so long.
Venezuela, Ecuador, Bolivia, Paraguay, Uruguay, Argentina and Brazil have tried to reduce class differences, but they haven’t been successful, and the cause is still there. It’s true that it’s time to move forward. However, don’t forget what happened before and why. Let’s do it right this time
