Gale sisters sign with Louisiana-Lafayette

flyon@miamiherald.com

Calvary Christian’s two-time pole vault state champion Emily Gale is headed to the University of Louisiana-Lafayette, and her identical twin sister Amanda is following her.

Amanda Gale — No. 2 in Florida (12-0) — and Emily Gale (11-0, No. 6) are co-favorites for the Class 1A state title and will solidify their futures as college teammates when they sign letters of intent with the Ragin’ Cajuns on Wednesday.

The Gales, who led Calvary Christian to its first state track title last season, said the opportunity to learn under Lon Badeau, a pole vault guru, played a pivotal role in choosing the Ragin Cajuns over North Florida and Vanderbilt.

“Coach Badeau has been tracking us since our sophomore year,” Amanda Gale said. “I’ve talked to him and people that have vaulted with him and I’ve only heard good things. We know we will be in good hands.”

Emily Gale is seeking her third consecutive state title after winning the 4A crown as a sophomore at Cypress Bay and then the 1A title at Calvary Christian last season. Amanda Gale was a state runner-up last season but leapfrogged her sister this season when she cleared a personal-best 13-0 to win the Royal Invitational title on March 3.
