Westminster softball, Flanagan baseball get big wins

The Westminster Christian softball team continues to add to its already impressive season with a 4-1 win over Naples High School in the gold bracket final of the Bill Longshore Tournament in Naples.

Pitcher Kelli Kleis earned her 16th win of the season, striking out five in a complete-game effort. She allowed four hits, and the lone run scored against her came in the bottom of the second inning.

The Warriors (19-4) responded with three runs in the top of the fourth.

Victoria Perez and Brittany Husk led Westminster Christian on offense. Perez went 2 for 4 and drove in a run, and Husk scored once and doubled as part of her 2-for-5 night.

BASEBALL

Pembroke Pines Flanagan won a battle of two Broward County heavyweights with a 5-2 victory at Southwest Ranches Archbishop McCarthy on Saturday.

Flanagan starter Gentry Fortuna earned the win with six strong innings of one-run baseball in which he struck out eight.

Ryan Dodge went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBI to pace the Falcons offense.

VOLLEYBALL

The Coral Reef boys’ volleyball team, with wins over Seminole Ridge (22-25, 25-16, 15-9) and Wellington (27-25, 26-24) on Saturday, won the Division I Silver Championship at the Palm Beach Classic Tournament.

The Barracudas were led by Cedric Hankerson, who had 30 kills, nine blocks and three aces in the tournament.

Anthony Caba totaled 104 assists and eight blocks.
