The Bronfman Fellowship program recently announced Ethan Danial of The Hebrew Academy in Miami Beach as one of 26 Bronfman Fellowship winners.
The fellowship program offers leadership experience through a five-week summer program in Israel where students explore the country and engage with thinkers, authors, artists and educators, followed by two educational seminars in New York. Ethan will continue to attend seminars through his senior year.
The final requirement of the program finds students completing a social action project while they are paired with an alumni mentor.
SCHOOL FOR ADVANCED STUDIES
Bethany Claunch, Scott Matsumoto and David Pena of the School for Advanced Studies were winners of the 2013 Ford Salute to Education Scholarship.
Bethany was recognized in the leadership and service category; Scott was recognized in math and computer science and David in natural science.
The program offers a $1,500 grant and a laptop computer to 50 students in Miami-Dade and Broward County.
ST. BRENDAN SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL
St. Brendan Senior High School’s Sabre Singers participated in the Festival Disney competition at Walt Disney Resort in Orlando. The choir performed four pieces including
Felix Mendelssohn’s He Watching Over Israel and Tomàs Luis de Victoria’s O Magnum Mysterium.
The choir earned superior ratings, best in class as a treble choir and first place overall.
ALPHA PHI ALPHA FRATERNITY INCORPORATED
The Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated of the Iota Pi Lambda chapter partnered with the Iota Nu chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated to give hope totes with toilet paper, hair combs, brushes, toothpaste, soap, lotion, shampoo, conditioner and other health items to the homeless residents of Miami-Dade County.
In total, there were 75 bags with two additional boxes of toiletry items donated to the homeless.
ARCHBISHOP CURLEY NOTRE DAME 6 TO 12 PREP
Archbishop Curley Notre Dame 6 to 12 Prep’s Speech and Debate team competed in the South Florida Catholic Forensic League Grand Finale Regional Championships in Davie.
Shelby Charles and Darby Vilme placed third and qualified to compete at the National Championships in Philadelphia during Memorial Day weekend. The tournament will feature high school students competing in drama, speech and debate.
