Miami-Dade homicide detectives were questioning a man suspected of beating his 73-year-old roommate to death Wednesday in a Palmetto Bay nursing home.
Employees at the South Dade Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 17475 S. Dixie Hwy., called authorities Wednesday morning after discovering that a bed-ridden patient, Robert Verser, had died, said Alvaro Zabaleta, spokesman for the Miami-Dade Police Department.
Police then saw that Versers body showed signs of injuries.
Homicide detectives determined the injuries werent consistent with a fall, so at that point they spoke to the roommate, who apparently had some visible marks on his hands, said Zabaleta.
According to police, Michael Poole, 41, told investigators that he had punched his roommate. Poole, who was not bed-ridden, was taken into custody and was being interrogated Wednesday evening.
Court records show Poole was convicted of a misdemeanor assault charge in 2008, and misdemeanor battery and assault charges in 2006.
