Coral Gables tennis teams advance to regional finals

The Coral Gables boys’ and girls’ tennis teams both defeated Coral Reef on Tuesday in a Class 4A regional semifinal.

The boys, led by a 6-2, 6-2 win from Mirko Radosevic at No. 1 singles and a 6-0, 6-2 win from Cristian Gazzolo at No. 2 singles, swept the Barracudas 5-0 with the match already clinched before the teams faced off for doubles.

The Cavaliers girls, highlighted by a 6-2, 6-1 victory from Sonja Radosevic over Ansofi Werder at the No. 1 singles position, beat Coral Reef 4-2.

The Coral Gables boys advance to face Columbus in regional finals while the girls will face Palmetto in matches set for Thursday.

Team Florida will hold its annual tryouts April 27 at 10 a.m. at Southridge High School. The team will have three college visits on its tour and play at the CABA High School World Series.

The Gulliver softball team walked off for a 5-4 win against defending Class 5A state champion Plantation American Heritage.

Stephanie Texeira, Miami-Dade County’s leader in home runs, hit the walk-off double in the bottom of the seventh and went 2 for 2 on the day.

Gabbee Draney pitched a complete game to earn her 11th victory.

American Heritage, No. 1 in The Miami Herald’s softball poll just last week, has now dropped three straight with losses to Palm Beach Central, Westminster Christian and now Gulliver.
