A search is underway for a missing 48-year-old male diver last seen three-miles off Key Biscayne, the Coast Guard said Sunday.
The diver was reported missing at 12:18 p.m. after he apparently jumped into the water without his flippers and began drifting away from the dive boat.
A Coast Guard rescue boat and helicopter were immediately launched to search for the diver who was wearing a black wet suit and a personal flotation device.
They have been joined in the search by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Miami-Dade Marine Patrol, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue and Miami-Dade Air Rescue.
The incident is the second involving boaters off Miami-Dade waters in the last 24-hours. Saturday night, a boat capsized off Miami Beach with four people on board; three men swam to shore but a fourth did not make it. His body washed ashore at noon Sunday on 59th Street and Collins Avenue.
Anyone with information about the diving incident should contact the Coast Guard at 305-415-6800.
