Re the April 5 letter Spanish rules: The writer talks about difficulty in finding a job if one does not speak Spanish and asks, “Who represents us?” It is a terrible injustice and it clearly shows the limited vision of this region’s leadership. At this point, we are well past the “Capital of the Americas” stage and into becoming a “world-class” city.
If we truly want to build an imposing culture here it is high time to start attracting Anglos and African Americans from all over the country by giving more emphasis to English.
This is the only way for this region, with its large population of immigrants, to develop into a magnificent example of the American melting pot at its best.
Politicians of all parties and stripes should realize that we need to stop penalizing people for not speaking a foreign language.
