I was so sad to see a story about another tragic gun death of an innocent child, 4-year-old Rahquel Carr. In his excellent column, The bitter tears of gun violence, Leonard Pitts says that almost 100,000 people will be shot this year, according to the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. About 17,000 will be under 19. The United States is bleeding profusely with gun violence and the unpardonable negligence that accompanies the right to carry arms.
It is unthinkable that a state legislative panel voted to support a bill allowing teachers to bring guns to school.
Congress must detach itself from the self-invested interests of the NRA and other organizations that benefit from arms sales. As caring citizens, we should be committed to protecting each other with strict regulations and control to prevent another massacre like Newtown. Have we forgotten already of our pain, our distress? Adding more guns is not the answer.
