Re the March 24 story, Data highlight punitive policy of detentions: I am appalled at the way the immigrants are being detained. Having to spend 15 days or more in solitary confinement is cruel and unusual punishment for a crime that is not harsh. Breaking the rules and talking back to the guards does not warrant such treatment. As the story said, long-term solitary confinement can cause mental harm.
These detainees haven’t even committed criminal offenses, just civil ones. But their treatment makes us no better than Cuba or other communist countries.
