Marlins tricked us

Greg Cote misses the point:

Community anger at the Marlins is not so much about the fire sale as it is about the stadium deal ( Miami Marlins deserve support despite Loria, April 3).

Empty seats during the first year of the new stadium attest the fan base in Miami is too small. The fire sale is a transparent excuse to explain the lack of support.

Cote conflates the two different issues. The Miami-Dade community has been saddled with a $2 billion obligation that cheerleaders like Cote help shoved down our collective throats. If he wants to champion any issue, he should be pushing Loria to reopen the stadium contract deal to make it more equitable.
