Hallandale Beach Police shot a man they say was burglarizing a home on the 800 block of Southwest Third Street Thursday afternoon, officials said.
The intruder, who was shot multiple times, was not killed, police said.
A call came into police about 3:20 p.m. from a neighbor reporting two men were trying to break in through the front door, said Hallandale Beach Police Capt. Sonia Quinones.
“When police arrived, the suspects were inside,” she said. “They saw the officers and they took off running.”
The officer reported he was “in fear” for his life and forced to open fire. He hit one of them at least twice. That man was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital, where he is recovering.
The second suspect was taken into custody. The suspects will likely face a burglary charge, but Quinones said it wasn’t clear if there would be additional charges.
It was not clear if the men were armed or if they had any items in their possession. Their names have not yet been released.
The officer will be placed on administrative leave pending the investigation, which is standard procedure, said Quinones.
