Police have identified a suspect that eluded Sweetwater officers at the Dolphin mall in a stolen taxi and took off on Florida’s turnpike.
Lazaro Ricardo Castellon, 33, of Hialeah, was charged with fleeing or attempting to elude a law enforcement officer.
According to Sweetwater police, Castellon bolted from the mall, avoiding two officers in pursuit. Castellon then crashed the cab into a car and a city police cruiser on Northwest 58th Street.
Police chased the cab onto the turnpike where it exited on eastbound Miramar Parkway.
Castellon then drove the taxi into the parking lot of a Kohl’s store and got out of the car. He was arrested by officers and taken to Miami-Dade County Jail.
The cab was stolen in the 4000 block of Northwest 26th Street.
